There’s a lot of chatter out there after the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery came out on CBS (the rest of the show is airing weekly on Sunday nights via the paid streaming service CBS All Access). This post is a round-up of what’s being said, especially by Christian fans but also by long-time Star Trek fans.
The Official CBS ST:Discovery News Page – Always good to link to the source.
E. Stephen Burnett’s seems optimistic over at Speculative Faith – “Despite odds and controversies, both the pilot episode, ‘The Vulcan Hello’ and the second episode, ‘Battle at the Binary Stars,’ show that most of this starship’s parts work very well.”
The folks at Three if by Space seem to like ST: Discovery – A link to all their articles on the show (I recommend subscribing to their posts if you like staying up on the latest specfic TV news).
Review of the first two ST: Discovery episodes at Tor.com – Despite the downer that it’s yet another prequel story, Keith R.A. DeCandido says he’s along for the ride. And this is a guy who says he’s written a “metric buttload of Star Trek fiction (and I believe it).
The Controversial Politics
The ST:Discovery cast gets political during NFL #takeaknee protest – Link to Instagram photo
Inside ‘Star Trek Discovery’: The Franchise’s Answer to the Trump Era – Rolling Stone article in which Aaron Harberts admits that the show’s antagonists are an ultra-religious and violent Klingon faction whose rallying cry – “Remain Klingon” – is intentionally reminiscent of “Make America Great Again.”
